May 8, 2020: Gallery at 105 curator Tom Conant has announced the recent acquisition of a mixed-media installation by renowned Chinese artist, Lao Tze Dung.
“I actually discovered this piece over a month ago, while browsing online for possible acquisitions. This was just at the beginning of the COVID crisis, when the Chinese art market was taking a big hit. Worldwide, major collectors were suddenly very skittish about investing in any contemporary work, much less a piece of such avant garde vision and craftsmanship. But when I first laid eyes on ‘Tower’, it took my breath away. I knew it wouldn’t last moire than a day on the online market, so I rolled the dice.”
The Gallery at 105 is showcasing the Dung piece in the re-launch of the “online” version of their Shepherdstown gallery. The doors to the Princess Street gallery have been closed since mid-March, but now a patron can browse and buy artwork by six resident artists, and even have it delivered, locally, within six feet of their doorstep.
